Greetings,
(1) I have a old Bass Station keyboard (not the rack) that has an issue with saving presets. When powering ON the keyboard, no sound is produced. This is because the MIDI Transmit and Receive (TX, RX) channels are not setup properly. This can be done entering into the Keyboard keys function by moving a toggle switch to 'Key. B" and setting the channels.
(2) Once they are set, the synth produces sound, but ONLY on the preset called "Manual" which is just the current state of all the knob/parameter settings. The other presets (1-7) produce no sound.
I found out how to Re-Initialize the keyboard and send the stock presets to the synth via MIDI. Once I do that, all the preset slots work (1-7) and I'm able to edit the presets and save them.
However, once I power the unit OFF and then ON again, all the presets are lost and the MIDI TX and RX settings are also lost and I have to reprogram the MIDI channels again. Once that is done, the synth is in the same state as (2).
I opened up the synth and it doesn't use a battery for the presets like most synths, and the bass station rack.
As far as I know, I did everything correct in terms of saving the loaded MIDI presets; there is a "Write/Protect" switch near the presets control and after loading the presets, I'll put the switch to "Protect" before powering the unit OFF.
There are Keyboard functions for "Load" and "Save" but those are for sending the onboard presets via MIDI Out to a computer or recorder to save the presets. So as far as I know, I'm not missing anything in terms of saving the loaded settings.
