I was looking through old issues of Electronics Now from the early 1960s, looking for a particular article. The American Radio History: Documenting the History of Radio TV and FM broadcasting web site has a bunch of magazine scans. These are cover to cover scans, including all the ads.
A lot of them are broadcast industry publications, but scroll down to the technical sections, both audio and consumer. I find particularly interesting the Popular Electronics, which was the big one in the day, but also Electronics World and Radio Electronics. PopTronics was the hobbyist rag, Electronics World was the same publisher, but aimed at a more technical market. RadioElectronics was the cheaper option to Popular Electronics. Sorta like going to K-MArt instead of Target.
It interests me to see the articles I read 50-60 years ago. I found a small tremolo project, and realized I have a hand drawn copy of that schematic in my file of stuff. 50 some years later, I still have that piece of paper. That is in November 1962 Electrtonics World if you care to look it up. They made a lot of things then we'd never consider now. Tachometers or ignition circuits for cars. Telephone things. TV antenna amps, little stereo amps. Parts that were common then.
I find the ads interesting. Lots of ads for Eico and Heathkit, and electronics trade schools. Full pagers from tube companies - check out our new 6GW4 (or whatever). Stereos and TVs. And the prices!!!.
