Thanks! I found out StewMac carries this exact tape now. Allparts had 7mm and 6mm widths, I used 7mm quite often, StewMac just has half inch and 6mm. Half inch is too wide. Least I found something...

Allparts isn't selling Toyo paper tape anymore. If you order it, they send you black crepe drafting tape. Called them and they said their buyer can't get it, some problems there. I've been using this...
When I had the first rough sand cast alnico recreated back in about 2007, I had Allstar and Magnetic Hold both work with the Chinese to accomplish that and I told them what I wanted. Reverse...
I just got a quote from a local small shop guy. 80 rods, six feet long, EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS. $3.20 each. Yield about 2500 keepers.
I decided to put a CNC stepper motor on the mill instead, total...
P13's were lacquer potted. But these were air coils with no core. As I stated above, lacquer does not penetrate the coil, just a couple outer layers. This is how the vintage Tele neck pickups were...
This looks like your best bet, but the cover itself may end up destroyed, worth a try though.
Its not really low impedance if you're converting it to high impedance with a transformer. I don't get the point of that. A real low impedance pickup is large wire with enough turns to satisfy a tube...
I prefer emails because you have a written dated record of the communication. Phone calls vanish the second you hang up. I won't order baseplates from them again, I don't think they carry what I used...
I would ignore the inductance readings and use AC resistance readings at 1khz. I always found this much more useful than Henries. I seem to remember than putting a base plate on a Tele bridge raised...
OK, I called and my money has been credited to my account. But beware they do not reply to their online contact form, nor to emails, which is just really unprofessional, and he went silent when I...
You're forgetting that all the metal parts including the magnet are all directly in contact with eachother. Alnico and "alni" are somewhere around 75% or more IRON. The steels used in pickups are...
Its not possible to describe the tonality of any alnico magnets. Why? Because no two alnico manufacturers use the same formulas. So you think alnico 2 is warmer, less trebly? Nope. I have different...
I've been buying a few minor items from Allparts for probably 14 years now. They've always answered emails, always helpful. My last order was $330 of one part I like. Have been ordering those for...
I made a replica of one once. You have to build everything from scratch. It sounded pretty good, but the amount of time to make one isn't worth the effort. There was some company claiming to sell...
They are still making the vintage rough cast magnets when I worked with them through Allstar and Magnetic Hold. Previously to that no one was making rough cast magnets. Sensmag still makes the ones I...
You can thank Mr. Pig, the pretend president and his idiotic "trade wars" crap he saw on Fox. Your vote has consequences, and you are paying for it now.
In the photo of the Meteor from Basscu, far right in the photo, sitting on top of the bright copper spool of wire. Where do people in Europe get plain enamel wire from?
I'm curious what is that roll of plain enamel on the green spool from?
Curious if this went anywhere.
Lacquer potting was seldom used and for good reason. Lacquer only penetrates a few layers of wire in, it doesn't get in deep. I've seen it used on old Tele neck pickups, and P13's, but nowhere else.
I showed them to Mario Milan who wrote that pickup book about 9 years ago, he's never seen anything like it either...
Definitely not Italian. The wire is PE, but its the same kind of PE I find on 40's and early 50's wire spools, overly size tolerance. I owned a Vox Bulldog back in the day, they were cheesy low...
Yeah I don't know, haven't had time to really look them over. If they are coil tapped that must have been pretty innovated, the wire diameter points to early 50's if not earlier than that.
I scored these off Ebay, they are really old and amazing. I believe one of the coils if not both are tapped. No magnets with them and can only conjecture what they were hooked up to. 42 gauge but the...
It depends on what era the pickups were made, the earlier the alnico, the less gauss the stuff will hold. Plus the material wasn't consistent, by today's standards most of the vintage alnico would be...
Good old Adams Maxwell winders, I have 3 of those now, built like tanks.....
The V pickups were another of Bill Lawrence's fantastic disaster pickups. I can't actually think of any good sounding pickups he designed for Gibson's guitars, now I think of it. I still have those...
I use it for specific purposes, but much of their wire is oversized and unusable. I got a roll from BAE and he was kind enough to send me a few inches to measure and it hit exactly where I want it...
