Check the voltage on A6 output both without a signal and with a picked note. You can also clip a red LED across one of the Vactrol LEDs to give a visual indication...

You need to match up the correct type; if you look at most, the bridge piece locates in open channels on the ends of the connector. This one has closed slots...

It looks like the filter is working but isn't sweeping. There should be a varying DC on the output of A6 that responds to picking. There's a significant difference...

You have to wonder if there's something going on that was the original reason for the OT being replaced. An over voltage condition that would blow the cap...

Before you replace the capacitor, which may be OK as these rarely fail, check the voltage drop across diodes D1, D2, D3, D4. They'll probably read fine with...

Does Thomann still offer their 3 year warranty? They've been excellent at arranging collection and repair/replacement of faulty goods at no cost to the customer,...

It's an IDC ribbon connector (IDC - Insulation Displacement Connector).
There's a special tool to assemble the connector, but I use a small bench...Last edited by Mick Bailey; 03-25-2024, 01:26 PM.

They're in series off IC A6. Connect one anode to the other's cathode, then the free anode goes to A6 and the free cathode to the trimmer wiper.

There's been some discussion about vactrol matching on one of the synth forums, where resistance and slope are critical. If you're measuring resistance in-circuit...

You can check if the Vactrol is operating correctly on the LED side by tacking a red LED across the terminals to give a visual indication. There's a trick...Last edited by Mick Bailey; 03-19-2024, 03:11 PM.

Low voltage electrolytics don't suffer the same degree of leakage nor consequences that are seen in tube amps. The main consideration for me would be leakage...

I got six DIP packaged ICs from a decent UK company for £0.90 each (about $1.14). I'm impressed with how well this filter works and the slope is excellent....

The amp would have worked fine when it left the factory, so I'd be reluctant to make any component changes. One thing to look for is to scope for ultrasonic...

low pass filter with no caps or inductors
I've been experimenting a lot lately with low-pass filter designs for audio (mainly for guitar synth use), especially something with a low parts count. The...

Really interesting effect and playing
I came across this on Modwiggler - the video is well worth watching:...

I wonder what the guitar originally sounded like when new? Presumably the Ovation engineers were happy with the design at the time, and had player-tested...

I've used low-leakage Ge transistors along with additional resistors to provide a leakage characteristic. I never did a side-by-side comparison, but my builds...

I've used jigsaws with a radius guide as well as routers. I prefer a router myself, but don't perform the cut in one pass. Many router bits cut inefficiently...
