I dunno. My brain isn't big enough to give a satisfactory answer as to why the pickup sounded less bassy. I can only report my results. The smaller magnets...Last edited by Freekmagnet; 02-22-2020, 06:15 AM.

Thanks for weighing in on this.
You are correct - the poles do not pick up much from the neighboring strings. You can hear some of the next string,...Last edited by Freekmagnet; 02-21-2020, 02:39 PM.

OK, I made a little update on this pickup. I basically made semi-laminated blade poles using a 1/16” bar and some pieces of thin 430 stainless steel....Last edited by Freekmagnet; 02-21-2020, 05:21 AM.

That’s a really good suggestion. Thank you!
Another pickup-making friend of also suggested that developing the pole piece might be beneficial to this...

Just a little follow-up. I build a fully functional version of this pickup and it sounds good. I managed to tame that wild E string by filing the pole piece...

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, this is mostly just a fun experiment. Now that I have made a few, it’s not difficult to make, but it is time-consuming....

I’ve been messing around with a Neodymium sidewinder design as well. I’ve been using 1/8” thick 430 stainless as blades and AWG 43 wire. I like how it sounds....

Simple as possible.
I like Wolfe's logo, too. I wouldn't put a cartoon there under any circumstances. That'd be a different logo....

Gluing two together might work. I'm currently casting my bobbins, so I'd just have to make one to fit the two together.

Source for 1/4" thick Alnico bar magnets?
Anyone know a source for some 1/4" thick A5 bars? Just like the typical humbucker bar, but thicker. 1/2" tall, maybe 2.5"+ long magnetized...

Wow, what's that sound like? I've been curious about neos, but I can't seem to find much info about them other than that they're like the stongest magnets...Last edited by Freekmagnet; 05-21-2016, 06:49 PM.

Thanks. I've heard that the A5's can get demagnetized very easily - I just don't know how easily I guess.
The turn counts are about the same....Last edited by Freekmagnet; 05-21-2016, 03:04 PM.

OK, so here's a question for you guys...
So, when you get into winding pickups, you inevitably end up with a lot of magnets and coils laying...

You guys raise some really excellent points here, and I'll try to address them specifically.

Thanks. Glad you like it.
I figured that the thin material would be good for maximizing the winding area.
Let it be known that these...
