glebert I appreciate you posting the
schematic and your description of the connectors. I figured out the cause and the ceramic sockets strike again....

Hot Rod Deville - a different kind of board burn.
On the bench is this Deville and I was a little surprised to see this when I opened it up. Thoughts on cause? The PT seems to ohm out okay. ...

I think I may tack in some filter caps, run a signal through it and into my dummy load setup to see which load gives me the most wattage....Last edited by tdlunsfo; 04-03-2024, 02:22 AM.

Ariatone 810 Speaker Impedance
I just had this old gem dropped off minus the speaker. It's going to get an isolation transformer, recap and a new speaker but I'm struggling to figure out...

For anyone that stumbles on this post and runs into this issue in the future I have bad news, Randall no longer supports the microcontroller for this amp....

Something was dragging down the 5v rail and after pulling the microcontroller the load dissapeared. I checked all the optocouplers and they seem fine. All...Last edited by tdlunsfo; 08-25-2023, 11:26 AM.

I actually just found the schematic and was thinking the same thing. Weird that I have no sound, and that kind of leads me right to the supplies. You'd think...

Randall LB103 Channel Switching Issue
This amp showed up on the bench today with weird channel switching problems. Upon opening the amp I saw a dreaded microcontroller that appears to control...Last edited by tdlunsfo; 08-24-2023, 12:37 AM.

I ran the amp on a dummy load at 20w for hours today and it performed flawlessly. I'll have to contact the customer to figure out why F2 blew. There is a...

I saw as high as 220v when playing with the bias pot. I put a 250v cap in there in case the fuse blows again....

I completely missed that note. Good catch. Now to figure out why F2 blew. It wasn't a hard blow.. fuse looks like it is barely open. I'll put it on the dummy...

Well nvmd, I'm a dumbass and found a blown F2 fuse hidden below some wires. Amp is fine now but interesting the voltage across the bias cap when F2 blows...Last edited by tdlunsfo; 08-17-2023, 12:17 AM.

Line6 Bogner Dl50 Blown Bias cap
Seemed like a simple fix.. bulging bias cap so owner changed the cap (did a decent job). Start up the amp and it bulges and vents gain, strange. I get it...

This amp is out the door. I put in a quad of JJs and the issue never returned. Time will tell if it's the tubes.

With the JJs installed and the PI pulled, the least hum using the bias balance pot yields 21 and 24mA at 502Vdc on the plates. It's cold but sounds okay....

These JJ's have taken every punch I've given them. I guess I need to give the customer a call and give him the bad news on his new Tung Sols.

These are 6L6GC STR's. @hemholtz, I hear you on the bias probes, I actually own one of the sense resistor types but rarely use it. I guess old habits are...

Positive. I've been using these probes for years. These route the plate through the meter to calculate the current. There are no resistors, and to be honest,...
