Hey Folks,
hope everyone had a great xmas time.
A friend of mine has an active Speaker cab which he uses as monitor on stage...

Does it mean I could use a diode in parallel to the LED -> both on the heater winding and end up with no increased hum? (provided I've used the right resistor)...

Series.
17 v winding -> diode -> resistor -> LED -> ground...

Here's the report.
It works great. LED is running at 7.1 mAmps. Let it running for hours (actually it was almost a day) with no issues so far.

Wow, thanks everybody. As a first try, I'll put a diode in series with the LED and report back after a couple of hours playing time. Maybe I'll let the amp...

I thought of that too, but what benefit would it actually have?...

I tried a series resistor calculator which led me to 1.5 K with a then current of 7.1 mA. LEDs start to glow at 8mA. I'll give it a shot.
I don't think...

LED burning up
Hey everybody,
I'm having some trouble with the pilot light in one of my builds.
I've used the standard Fender 6.3 volts AC light before,...

I changed the PI to 5F6A values including the 27k NFB resistor. Put a 4K7 restistor to ground instead of a pot.
Disconnected the grids from the UL taps...

Sorry I wasn't precise enough. What I meant was to connect the grids the normal way with a dropping resistor.
A second cab would surely add some headroom...

Before I changed to the long tail PI the amp was (well, at least it felt) louder. That was with the PI of the Ampeg schematic. What I mean is, for the same...

Ok I think I left out some information on the amp.
It WAS a two 6L6GC poweramp with a 60W OT.
It is now a four 6L6GC with a Twin Reverb OT made...

Wattage and headroom
Hi there,
still tinkering with my B-15 clone.
I installed a 135 watts ultralinear OT recently but I expected more change in headroom...

I tried a 680 ohms bias resistor which is recommended on Radall Aikens website as a good 'standard' value. Good call.
The tail was 22k and 4.7k to ground....

I'll try your suggested values.
One more thing.
What about the neg. feedback resistor? Do you think 10K is a good value to start from?

Absolutely. Thanks alot.
Next monday I'm gonna haul the amp (which is a head btw) from our rehearsal room to my place to fool around with it. ...Last edited by txstrat; 12-25-2015, 09:48 AM.

Yep, me too.
Which grid is your input for the PI?
And maybe you have some suggestions for the resistor values?...

I put in some Tung Sol reissues and they are way better than the pair of no name brand 6L7s I'd used before.
Merry christmas from me to all...

The first two are 100uF the others 47uF.
Think that's OK even with four 6L6s....

Which of the triodes in your LTP have you connected the signal input to? Grid 1 or grid 4?
I've learned that grid 4 is less sensitive to hum. That's...

That's right.
At the moment I think about changing the paraphase to a long tail PI. In that case I'd have to change the NFB resistor anyway. Think I'll...
