As long as the plate voltage is higher than the screen voltage, the plate is sucking the electrons away of the screens (beam power plates). But if the plate...

Couldn't check anything yet, because I'm still over building the first two amplifiers of this type, which do have dual bias for quickly swap from 6550/KT88...

SVT 6550C =(C)= max. screen voltage
Hello everybody!
The older data sheet of this tube says: screen voltage at idle 425V (absolute maximum ratings)
The newer data sheet...

JJ's are a good choice as for 'high voltage' EL84's
But the best 'high voltage' EL84 still is the russian 6P14P-EV (orig. lettering: 6П14П-ЕВ)...

The original .50 Caliber schem shows a dropping resistor of 3.5K/11W, what results in a screen supply voltage of 365V @ a fairly high B+ of 440V, remaining...

Hopefully this is a typo!
The wiper is the middle lug on a pot, where the shield NOT has to be connected to! The shield must be connected to the output...

If you don't use shielded cables, you have to twist both cables to the pot, but especially the two from the pot to the tubes.
Don't come too close to...

You definitely have parasitic oscillation, what's mostly caused by suboptimal lead dress.
In this case a photo says more than 1,000 words, 3 fotos say...

They MUST be removed entirely. Your amp isn't a transistor radio, but a highly sensitive animal!
Anything what's left in the circuit w/o function is...

No, this was said in general. If you'd have been lazy, then your post wouldn't have appeared here
Shure! Again and again this still...

You can't use a 1M pot and you can't use a 500K pot, if you want to benefit from my version of a PPIMV!
There are a lot of reasons why, which I don't...

EL84's are smoother & sweeter sounding than EL34's, especially when overdriven.
It's about the same sound and overdrive character difference like...

I'll ask him tomorrow, today it's already too late here in Germany, business time is over.
He's one of the biggest tube sellers here in Europe...

Yep, this was me, who started this topic there, because I was so pissed about failing 3 tubes one after the other
But I've tried meanwhile...

If you have an LCR meter, then measure inductivity from the white to the other three w/ open primaries!
0-8 ohms usually is 4 times the inductivity...

Bubbles, where the exhaust valve (correct word? I'm a German!) is sitting under the coating. A sign for a bad cap, what even might explode under extreme circumstances....

I don't want to piss onto anyones opinion or experience, just want to tell, what has happened to me once...
... it's been already a few years...

The resonance pot's value is 3...10 times of the NFB resistor's value (dropper's value). Use a log pot - and to avoid scratchy noise, you can put a 1µF foil...

Dai, that's correct!
I do it this way in all of my amps, because the OT is sitting on the input side of the chassis and then the incoming primaries...
