  • Stratocaster Series Parallel switch mod

    Help!

I am trying to wire my Stratocaster so that the middle and the bridge pickup are in series when the 5 way switch is in the bridge only position and I pull up a DPDT switch on the back of the tone control. With the switch down it operates as it does stock.

So far I get the neck pickup on the neck only position and silence in the other positions.

Does anyone know how to do this successfully? Does anyone have a hookup diagram for this type of mod.

I don't think it can be done without affecting the other positions involving the middle pickup. Best to use a Superswitch and give up one of the usual positions of standard wiring.

      Cheers,
Thanks for responding. You are right. With the DPDT switch engaged I think I lose the middle position on the 5way switch. Here is what It did.

On the internet I found the following hookup diagrams at Rothstein Guitars (RG) and Torres Engineering (TE).

      http://www.torresguitars.com/guitart...ratseries.html

I used the explanation in the TE document and the diagrams from RG which show the wiring of the DPDT switch required to do this switching. What neither is clear on is exactly where to tie the switch into the existing 5 way switch with enough detail for me. Rats! Using the diagrams above I forged on.

I wired the DPDT switch the way the RG site suggested as the middle pickup looks like it maybe on in either position.

I took a guess that the hot lead on the bridge pickup is wired to the 5 way switch in the stock manner but that the negative lead goes to the DPDT switch as shown in the RG diagram. One down.

I lifted the hot lead for the middle pickup from the 5 way switch and soldered it to the DPDT switch according to the RG diagram. I then ran the lead from the lower right connector on the DPDT switch to the lead on the 5 way switch, the lead I had removed the middle pickup hot lead from (again a guess).

Before I put this back together and test it does anyone know from looking at these three diagrams if I have this right?
