  • Hand-winding using wire from another pickup...

Hi guys, newbie here, long-time lurker. I've got a pickup that I'm interested in pirating some wire from and rewinding as a humbucker. Has anyone here ever done this with any success? I don't have a winding machine and am actually considering doing this by hand (over the course of a few evenings, or however long it takes). I'm not sure that will even work or if I could get the coils tight enough... I think my method is probably quite archaic compared to what winders normally mean when they say "hand-wound." This is more of a personal experiment than anything else; if it works, cool. If not, I'll live. Every winder I've asked about this has passed on doing it, so I figure it must be a bit of a pain and that I'd just give it a shot. I have a fairly good understanding of the way pickups work and have handled some of the fragile wire, but I've never run a winder or tried to make one on my own. Any advice, warnings or information would be appreciated!
