  • Photos & Sound Clips of 5E3

I am a newbie to the amp building world. I was originally moving towards my first project, a 5F1, but got so many recommendations to go with a 5E3. I would really like to see a completed guts of this amp to compare against a schematic for better understanding of how this amp is put together. Also, I have been searching hi/low for sound clips of this amp, but with no luck. I realize that there are so many mods to this kit and each amp maybe a bit different, but any help would be much appreciated.

Bruce, I hear only the highest regards of your kits and services. Keep up the great work, and hopefully to be very soon a customer of your 5E3.

Oh yeah, some of the photos I have seen were shot in a lower quality so it wa a bit blurry for my eyes.

Thanks everyone and keep this forum pumping

We are limited to digital photo files of only 40Kb here and I don't have any small enough to fit that are clear.
I'm sure many of the other Tweedy Deluxe builders must have some home page pictures though.
    I'll look around too.

      Hi

Altough not stock here's a sample from a 5E3 style amp I did make in a piggybacked silverface Champ:

      http://www.uncledig.com/clipgallery/...in%20Champ.mp3
      http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~sjem/image.../TTC%20top.jpg

(Sample played with a PRS and a 4x12" early 70s Marshall cab, only using the volume-control on the guitar for cleaner sounds)

Afaik the documentation of the Mission kits is very clear and good to understand and follow.
      Love, peace & loudness,

Wow, that is sounding ver good Tonezoneonline.

You say the woodie is basically a 5E3, could you perhaps tell about some diffrences?
I sure hope my upcomming 5E3 Kit will sound like the sound file.

              Henk,
That amp was built several years back and I really don't remember the details.I have built several similar amps since then and I do increase the filtering some.I think that amp had a choke and Sprague 716 orange caps.
It had Weber speakers.A pair of tens.I belive the Texas speakers.I usually prefer the 10A125 and 10F125 speakers for those amps.

                  Bruce,

The file size limit for attachments was increased some time ago. I think it's currently set to 256k.

                      Frenzel

If your into authentic to original specs you might not like this amp , but it's pretty sweet for the money. I've heard nothing but good things about Jim Frenzels 5E3s.

They aren't exactly a replica, but they sure are well built and sound cool and are more versatile. Here are the specs:

                      Here's some sweet video:

Here is a demo of the other added advantage of this amp; a marshall voiced channel.

                      What do you think?

It may or may not sound good to you, that is subjective, but it's nothing like a 5E3 and I don't understand why the guy markets it as such.

                          I doesn't sound like a 5E3 to me either.

Here at http://www.18watt.com/modules.php?na...wtopic&t=15585 is a very interesting blind listening test of 4 amps. The amps are a Marshall JTM45, an 18 Watt Lite IIb - Sweetwood kit, a 5E3 - built from an old Magnecord chassis and a 5E3x2 built from parts. Guitars are a 1996 Gibson Les Paul Custom, a 2006 Fender Highway 1 Telecaster and a 2004 PRS Custom 22 and they are all played through the same speaker.

You may need to register to hear the samples but it is well worth it.

Here is a very good clip of Rich Robinson playing into a pair of vintage 5E3's.
