  • !948 Magnatone and Motor Boating

I have an old Magnatone 192-5. It uses 2x6V6, 1x6LS7, and 1x6N7. I took it all apart to help me learn more about electronics/amps. Most of the components were original, but the filter caps had been changed not too long ago. The amp did have some hum and the pots were scratchy, but there was never any "motor boating". I added a 3 wire power cord and put it all back together. Now there is a distinct -Bam Bam Bam Bam- type of sound. It happens at all volumes, with or without a guitar plugged in.
So I am wondering, "motor boating" is usually a capacitor/AC/time kind of a problem is it not? It is not impossible that one of the Ruby 22/500 filter caps went bad. So I have ordered some and await their arrival. Other than that, is there something else I should think about changing/checking?
    Thank You

A quick look for a schematic came up empty. Have you had any luck?

Make sure all those caps are grounded by ohming the minus side to ground.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
