Rather than designing a sensitive project from scratch, with little background, may I suggest a kit or two?

      Cheers

I Have Lookd at a few, that aim is a long term goal, and i feel i would learn more from following a schematic, have you heard of any reviews of the results of the jensen schematics on there website. do you know any other good websites as a resource for mic preamp design. there are a few simple schematics on the net that i am gonna start with i was just wondering if there ws a schematic on the net based around the lundahl 1538?
thank you v much for yur reply don
      take care

See this old thread: http://music-electronics-forum.com/s...ght=mic+preamp and check out the $5 DIY preamp while you're there.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

Ditto what everyone else said. Here's another preamp kit site: Seventh Circle Audio. These are probably the very best preamp kits you can buy. Very professional sounding and depending which kit you buy are emulations of some of the best pre's ever made.

I realize these are probably the extreme, but just thought I'd throw it in for reference.

Couple of links that may be useful :-

            Mic Preamp Schematic Collection

            Gyraf Audio The G9 Micpre:

"This is an adaptation of our popular Gyratec-IX microphone preamplifier. Featuring real-tube amplification, Phantom power, High-pass filter and Phase reverse as well as Line, Mic and Instrument inputs. The sound is second to none, but it's a quite complicated project - not really suitable for first-time builders."

well gotta have one tube pre-amp.. seems it's popular - uses a lundall 1528.
