  • Old Carvin Pro Bass II 300 pops and crackles

Old 1987 Carvin Pro Bass II 300 Solid state Amp

When first turned on it makes a few popping and crackeling sounds but then it stops and works fine for about 30 to 60 minutes of use then it starts to pop, and crackle. Then it will work for a minute then start popping again. But the longer it is on the worse it gets. It's like when it heats up something is causing a problem.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Does this sound like bad Caps?

No, it is most likely cold solder joints that expand with heat and make contact, but they are still intermittent. I've seen cold solder joints on more than a few Carvin products. The trick is to find them.

OK, I'm going to look for them and try to touch up all the solder joints I see that look suspect.

      thanks for the tip,
and if anyone had any other ideas I would be glad to hear them.

I'll let you know the outcome of the solder touch-ups.

      Thanks again
