head room calculation?

I searched the forums for an answer but so far I've come up empty handed, I was wondering if anyone had an equation or two that dictates output tube head room? I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track by using the primary side of the output transformer as a current source with finite supply dictated by it's inductance but i would appreciate something to compare notes to. Thanks.
