  • Just a compliment to you

I've been reading some of the past posts and wanted to compliment you guys on your knowledge and your ability to share that knowledge freely with others. I've been an automotive electrical and air conditioning specialist for over 40 years as well as a general mechanic. One of my hobbies is vintage radios. So, I do have some electrical knowledge. But I do lack quite a bit conserning solid state circuitry and I can tell you that I am learning so very much from all of you here. I am very impressed with the way everyone here helps out. I try to do the same at many auto related sites as this is one way to keep the information I've learned in circulation. I've also spent many years as an on site trainer for student mechanics so I can appreciate it when I see good solid teaching being done. This is what I have seen on this and a few other sites. While there are a number of guys that have contributed to the education of many here one guy tends to stand out in my eyes and I can say that a lot of you refer to him in many ways. He is Enzo, I just read a post that must have taken a lot of his time where he helped a guy with a Fender Statge 100 find a lost voltage problem. He was patient and very instructive in his dealings with this gentelman. In the end he fixed the trouble and never made a single comment about any lack of knowledge that might have been present. So... I just felt that someone should put a little focus on his help as well as the many of you that have done the same. Keep up the good work.. It's education that can never be taken from you. THANKS!!

music-electronics-forum.com/t7013/ This was just one of many that I read of his. Please, don't misunderstand me. I read so many from other guys here too. Everyone is great. He just seems to be the one that is ALWAYS there and many have asked "where's Enzo" for help. That is quite a tribute.

This is a phenomenon I have noticed on more than one technical forum: the wrong contributor in a given thread winds up getting thanked.

I surely do not think that the people doing the thanking mean to do it, but I do notice it happening.

Must be due to some natural tendency we have: we read 10 threads where a super-contributor has the answer, and somehow, in the 11th one, someone else answers the question, but the super-contributor gets the thanks.

It's something that I remember from back in the BBS days, 20 years ago. I think it's maybe a limitation of the threaded message format. We read and absorb the content of each message, but lose track of the handle next to the message. Perhaps our brains keep track of conversations not by written names, but by the characteristics of each speaker/typer.

So by the end of a thread, it's easy to get people mixed up, and Enzo as "the guy with the solution" is strongly imprinted in the brains of people who read this forum.

In any case, being mistaken for Enzo is probably the biggest compliment one can get around here!

Sorry if you think that I am stepping on your toes. I did not mention the exact post until you asked. It was just one that I read of many out there that was exceptional in his help. I really am pointing this compliment at ALL of the guys here that help out. He is just one that is that "Super Contributor". I do somewhat the same thing at some auto related sites. (I'm a 40 plus year automotive electrical and air conditioning specialist) It takes a lot of time to do and as a result I have had to lower my involvement as I just do not have that kind of time. I do have other things in my life to use the time on as well. Enzo contributes here and a number of other sites I have seen. It must be a large work load for him and I tip my hat to him for that. But I also do the same to each and every one of you here that help in so many ways.

By the way, I did reread that post and it appears that Enzo's help was what pointed you towards the answer. with the excpetion of one post by 52 bill, another great guy that I see helping out often, the dialogue was all enzo and jam. So I don't see where the problem is. But, again, sorry if I stepped on your toes and let's just move on if we can.

                Yes, Enzo is the man!
I figure that if any of us can help reduce his workload around here, maybe he can finally get some some sleep, or sign himself up at a few more help boards.

                  Oh stop...

Thank you for the kind words. We are all trying to help one another. I learn from everyone here. There are guys with knowledge I certainly don;t have. I always read whatever RG has to say even if the thread is not so interesting to me. STeve Connor always brings an engineers point of view to things. There are other old timers here beyond myself, and I enjoy hearing from their experience. I learn from all these people. And plenty of others.

And having the opportunity to explain things to someone less experienced is a great way to learn about something. MAny times I go to explain something and realize I never really thought about a particular circuit before. Having to explain it causes me to have tio really think it through and learn more in detail how a circuit works.

Not everything I say is an original thought, my collected experience is in part drawn from contact with others, such as everyone here. And sometimes I find that something I believed was not actually true. And humbling though it be, it is also a joy to have learned something new.

Three cheers for Enzo... Hip hip...

Seriously. And not to take any light off Enzo, who has been my ace in the hole in my recent ventures designing for a recognized player in the guitar gadget biz, but in keeping with the spirit of his post I think it's fair to mention the other profound contributors here.

RG, who has schooled us all via his GEO posts and continues to contribute. The number of times his articles have been referenced and recommended cannot be counted.

Bruce Collins, who by his excellent service, report with his customers and continued contributions here once vaulted the coveted 5E3 circuit into it's own forum. Mission amps continue to hold the reputation as the finest kit available as well as number one in customer service.

Steve Conner, who is always kind and patient as someone with a profound knowledge of their craft rarely is when surrounded by duffers like me.

Tubeswell, who always "shows up". Life is happening and he participates with experience to field most any question on parr with the upper end of this forums knowledge. The only person here I know of that carries the moniker "Lifetime Member" That's participating folks.

Loudthud. If it has to do with tube amps, he's seen it. Very "matter of fact" straight foreward (but sometimes humorous) in his approach. You can count on his suggetionsto have the benefit of hands on application.

Steve Ahola. Founder and keeper of The Blue Guitar. A truely altruistic effort that has been to the benefit of many. The Blue Guitar has become an institution not just here, but with several amp forums.

And of course Tboy. Without whom we would all be scattered. Try as he might he can't seem to part with this forum and it has survived many, many years because of his efforts.

There are many current members that deserve to be mentioned. Some comparitively recent additions to our roster have proven worthy in short order. I can't possibly mention everyone. Anyone wishing to add to this list is encouraged to do so.

As an aside I'd like to mention two names from the past in case someone knows what ever became of them as I'd like to know. These guys were here fifteen years ago when I started visiting this forum and occupied upper ranks with Enzo, Bruce, Steve and RG.

                    Ken Gilbert (kg)
                    Wild Bill

I think Ken still has a web page...Not sure. Id sure like to know about Wild Bill.

I've visited all the forums and without a doubt this is the most trouble free, easy to access and most knowledgeable forum on the subject I have found. I am very proud to be a part of this. Almost any name on this forum could come up in my daily conversations with friends and family. And this seems appropriate.

"Take two placebos, works twice as well." Enzo

"Now get off my lawn with your silicooties and boom-chucka speakers and computers masquerading as amplifiers" Justin Thomas

"If you're not interested in opinions and the experience of others, why even start a thread?
You can't just expect consent." Helmholtz

                      +1 Chuck!

I am very proud to be part of this too, I'm glad each time I can learn something new, and I'm happy if I manage to help out someone; this pride is the main reason why I quit using a nickname ( Voxrules! ) and started using my real name ( though I thought it was better to spare you all the view of my face ).

I am indebted to most of the persons you mentioned, so I take this opportunity to publicly thank them all, and to thank tboy for keeping this site up and running.

                      Cheers

                      Bob
