  • Guitar cable question

I was given a monster guitar cable and was wondering if the shield strand should be soldered to the ground wire on one end to help prevent ground loops.
    Thank u.

    Contradictory answers:

    1) yes, but only one end, because if it's not connected at all, it's not a shield.
    - you may have to swap the ends to find the lowest-noise connection
    2) yes, at both ends, but leave that other wire disconnected - you don't need it.
    3) no, you can't get a ground loop between a guitar - which is effectively 'floating' - and an amplifier.

Sadly, all of these answers are equally true (I think). Personally, I would choose (2).

    Hope this helps!

For the signal cable from guitar to amp the sheild has to be connected at both ends to - if not you don't have a complete circuit (unless this cable has two sheilded connectors to complete the circuit)
