is this one ok to measure hum and single coil magnet strength?

this one says: from 0 to 50 milligauss

    Don't think so.

I saw a table on this forum somewhere that said that A5 can measure up 12,800 Gauss when fully charged...so I don't think that one will work. It is probably designed for sensing really low magnetic fields...like ghosts I guess?!?!?

Just remember you get what you pay for.

The GMA-200 is still the best one I have seen for the money. I love it and would spend the $200 on it again in a heart beat

        Probably not.

Most pickup magnets are in the 500-3000 Gauss range.

The Carlson Melton GM-200A is a good bet at $300+ MSRP.
Trifield's Model 1 is similar, costs $260 MSRP.
Everything from FW Bell starts near $1000.

When a magnet alloy is spec'd at 12,500 gauss maximum remanence (Br),
it means a theoretical maximum. You might need a 9 inch Alnico rod to
reach that maximum figure since it is fighting against a tendency to
        demagnetize.

Conversely, C5 ceramic magnets max out at 3800 Gauss but, because
of higher coercivity (Hc), can be stronger than a same size alnico magnet.

I think I was the first pickup maker to buy that gauss meter.

They don't sell outside the US anymore but I suspect you are Kim Le Fleur so you'll be able to get one here :

          Gaussmeter - GM200A

It's a great unit and should it ever break down I would fly over to the US to get another.

Surely Jeff Shepperd has a gauss meter you can use.

Remember the cheep Gauss meters only measure the AC around 60hz. That would be the magnetic field that a light socket gives off.
I have a cheap meter and the only way I get a reading from a pickp magnet is to wave it in front of the meter. not accurate at all!!!

Don't forget the AlphaLab gaussmeters. You really don't need AC reading capabilities unless you are measuring fields around motors. Alpha was selling on Ebay for awhile at really good prices, but I don't see them there now, maybe they needed some quick cash...

The CM meter is great for the price and what you get. It is the boutique pickup industry standard pretty much. ...and many makers use it.
