  • (2) 10's in SF Deluxe Reverb

Late 70's SF Deluxe Reverb has been modded to use (2) 10" speakers. Currently running (2) 4ohm 10's in series. I want to change speakers. Will the amp take the additional load if I switch to a pair of 8ohm spkrs in parallel or should I stay with an 8ohm load?

Using 2x8ohm speakers in parallel (4ohms overall) would be just the same as using the stock internal speaker with an 8ohm ext cab in the "ext. speaker" jack. There will be a mismatch of impedance but it won't do any harm to the amp. This would also provide matched impedances should you want to try 5881/6L6 power tubes in the amp (rebiased to suit, say 30mA per tube).

You could also try wiring the 2x8ohm speakers in series for a 16ohm load. Whichever set up sounds best to you is the right one. (Though I wouldn't try the 5881/6L6 power tubes with the 16ohm set up, too much mismatch).
