  • Classic 50 tube biasing?

    Hi All,
Just bought a 1st gen Peavey Classic 50 4x10 that I am having a ball with. I was reading a post on Ebay that claimed these amps are self biasing. Does anyone know if this true or not?

No, they are not self biasing, they have a fixed bias but can be converted into adjustable bias by replacing the bias resistor (R18, 33k IIRC) with a 15k Resistor in series with e.g. a 25k Poti...
I can fix everything, where is the duct tape?

I don't like the term self-biasing either. But if you are asking if you can just plug in new tubes without having to have the amp adjusted in some way, then yes, that is the cae. Plug and play.

it is easy to convert to adjustable as bluesfreak points out, but not necessary.

Now that assumes you mean a real Classic 50 - from the 1990s. SOme people erroneously call the old Classic from the 1970s a "Classic 50," because it is a classic and has 50 watts. But that is a totally different amp.
