  • Mesa Boogie .50 Caliber Amp - Low Output On Overdrive Channel

On the Mesa Boogie .50 Caliber Amp, the clean channel is just fine. The power amp is obviously working great. The problem is with the Overdrive channel- the output is faint. Any ideas on what the problem might be or where to begin looking?

    Thanks, Tom

replace V1 preamp tube, its sole function is overdrive, when in clean channel, this tube is bypassed.

Ok, I will give that a try. I am studying the schematic tonight.

Well.... I swapped out V1 but the same problem. Something I didn't notice before- the EQ Section is not working when in the Overdrive mode. So I need to look at that more carefully, seeing how V1 feeds the EQ section.

This unit was taken for service at a local shop. It needed a couple of caps, several tubes, and a replacement footswitch input jack. All is working now. Thanks everyone for your input.
