  • Unoriented Alnico V

I got examples of unoriented Alnico V magnets from sens.
I charged them full up and the are verry strong, stronger than my other
    Alnico V.
How to make shure that these are unoriented ?

Try charging them through the sides?

There is no way to determine if they are iso-tropic by measurement.

There could be several other things at play that increase the strength of the magnet..

      1) Addition of Titantium
      2) Heat Treating
      3) Different A5 Formula

I've got some of those samples too. Maybe you got the wrong thing.

I went and measured a sens A5 and fully charged it .. max reading was 1023 gauss average in the middle was 680.

I measured the A5L and max reading was 1040 gauss and 550 average in the middle.

      bel.

        hmmm....

I checked the magnets in my Les Paul and I think they sound thin and miss the complex 3 D tone compared to my other Alnico.

              Yo Possum....

So you like the sens A2 ?
I had polished A2 from Rob Par some time ago and it had a higher gauss
than ervery A2 I had seen before. Its gauss readings were close to A5.
I think it came from sens, too.

I am looking for rough cast A2 and A5 with a nice tone.
Sens is the ceapest way to go but I still have a boatload of their
              A5 rods ;-( .

Did you guys hear the unoriented magnets from Jazzbluesrock ?

                ....

I never listened to JazzBluesRock's magnets because one of them lost most of its charge just sitting on my desk, bad sign. I bought a stash of A2 from Manilus pickups, I assume they are Sensmag but maybe they aren't. They sound better than any of my other A2 stashes from other places. I was listening to all my stuff today and it always wins out, except for A4 from Magnetic Hold, which sounds real vintage in this particular pickup. The 5L I think would work good in a neck pickup. I'm not so sure the Manilus ones are SensMag because I have some of their A2 rough cast samples and some from Allstar that look the same and they are brighter sounding than Manilus.

                  so..

                  Yes,
                  I think Allstar is Sens.
I had some A3 rods I got from Allstar and they look the same as the A5
I got from sens.I found that the sens magnets are verry light weight compared to
                  my other stuff.

Got this answer from Monica today:

When magnet are charged, the magnetism is strong

Usually magnet demagnetizing 10% half a year, then stabilization.

                      Hope you understand.

                      Best regards

                      Monica

Sounds brittle because magnetism ist strong!
