  • Gibson GA-7 Power Transformer

I recently acquired a Gibson GA-7 tube amp. This one had been in storage for quite a long time.
I did my usual check-out and prepared to turn it on for the first time and commenced to blow fuses (Slo-blo/ 1A) one after another. After each fuse, I removed different elements from the circuit; first, removing the tubes, next, disconnecting electrolytics, and finally, completely disconnecting the power transformer and still the fuse blew. The transformer smells burnt and seems to have wax accumulated inside the end-bells and on the lower surface.
I am checking into having the original transformer re-wound but I would like to buy a new transformer to finish the amp restoration in the meantime. The schematic is the same as the Gibson GA-5 Les Paul Jr. amp with a 6SJ7-6V6 and a 5Y3 rectifier. I would like some practical advice about the (temporary) replacement transformer and possible the name of a re-winder. As always, troubleshooting advice is welcome too!
    Thanks!!!
