  • Deluxe reverb (1966) question

I have a deluxe reverb (1966) and the reverb is way too thick/not controllable another words when I go from 2.5 (too little) to 3 (too much), anyway, looking at the schematic it has 1/2 of a 12ax7 (recovery?) and a 12at7 in the reverb channel. If I step the 12at7 to an 12au7 and/or the 12ax7 to an 12at7 would that make the reverb more controllable?

I have a princeton reverb thats perfect to dial in around 5 and easy to control. Suggestions?

You need to reduce the gain of the reverb driver.
A 12AU7 instead of the 12AT7 might work. You could also disconnect the 25/25 cap parallel to the 2k2 cathode resistor.

I always keep some really weak, old, spent 12AT7s in stock for this purpose.

    Cheers,
    Albert

Great idea to tame the reverb with a lower gain driver tube. I found out the 12BH7 is a good choice too, as well as the 12AU7.
