  • noises being picked up by pickups?

A friend was doing some feedback recordings with a semi-hollow and as he moved the guitar around the wiring harness would bump around inside the guitar and the bumping was audible through the amp.

Is this normal or could that be caused by an open or loose ground? He did find that the ground was just twisted and taped, no solder.

It's fairly normal. At high enough gain you can usually hear it when you rub on parts of the guitar.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Ah ok. The high gain. That makes sense as he's usually not pushing to the point of feedback when he plays. Thanks man.

With a high inductance pickup in the bridge of a Strat, at hard rock gain levels, I can hear the springs!
