    hello everyone! i have a heathkit a7 amp that i want to turn into a guitar amp. it works fine as is,but i would like to add a standby switch,and go from there. does anyone have any info here on how to do that. im new to tube audio and trying to get all the advice i can.

    Here's a schematic of the A7--or one version of it. It's an oddball little amp, notably in that it uses all 12.6V tubes, including output tubes.

    It's got a tube rectifier. Why do you need a standby switch?

      my main goal is to add an extra gain stage im guessing a 12ax7, not shure yet. i want to learn,build,and modify this unit. i read that the plate currents are real high on this unit at startup???? what i have gatthered is that a standby can prevent that and its supposed to be helpfull
