  • 5f1 tweed champ odd distortion and sag issue

    Hi

Just finished a rebuild of a 5f1 tweed champ circuit. Odd sound has got me asking for help. The amp fires up, works, but the sound is terrible. It sounds like way distorted Neil Young, over compressed with tons of Power tube sag. The louder I put the volume the more sag, and each note played starts loud and tails off.

Replaced the power transformer and mostly new board components. Ran the circuit over and over looking for a mistake, can't find one.

Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? Could it be a bad OT? Replaced 5y3, and both tubes with new ones a couple times and no change.

Please describe your build, and where you got the transformers. If possible, post pictures and the voltages on all the tube socket pins.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
