  • Dimarzio Wiring Problem

So I've rewired my JS1200 with updated satch pups, but I'm still getting the weird grounding hum problem. When I touch a pot I get a weird crackling sound unless I'm physically grounding the guitar using my finger (or pinch the bridge ground wire). Where is it going wrong?!

    Hello Richard:
    I notice no response.
I didn't see a ground to the 3Way switch housing.
Also I would experiment with the bypass cap on the vol.
I would take it loose to see if that changes anything.
Also I recently wired a customers guitar with 2 DPDT switches.
I used one for split, and the other one for Reverse Phase.
    Worked slick.
You have 2 nice switches there but not utilizing them too much.
Make sure you have a real good ground between all the pots and switches.
    Good Luck,
    Rock On!

You sound pretty handy with a soldering iron, and test gear.
Did you take a ohm meter and read from the sleeve side of the jack to each component ground?
Also make sure the bridge ground reads low ohms.
        Later,
        Terry

        * Edit Note:
Here's another wiring Diagram for a comparison.
It uses Seymour colors, you may have to sub your colors.
I've always had great luck with SD wiring diagrams.

So I got new pots and rewired the whole thing from scratch, the problem still persists but it has MUCH improved...
