  • question about impedance matching

i have a sovtek mig 60 with speaker outs for 4 ohms 8 ohms and 16 ohms. i got two 2x12s, one that runs at 4 ohms and 16 ohms. will plugging both cabs into the head at the same time damage either the head or the cabs? if it doesn't damage it, will it cause a loss of tone or volume?

First of all, this ought to be in the guitar amps forum.

Second, your post is unclear, do you mean that you have two 2x12s, one of which is 16 ohms and the other 4? In this case the best solution is to open up the 4 ohm one and rewire the speakers in series. It will now be 16 ohms. You can then hook the two cabinets in parallel and drive them off the amp's 8 ohm output.

Connecting the 16 ohm cab to the 16 ohm output, and the 4 ohm one to the 4 ohm output, is second best. It's a 2:1 mismatch, but this is very unlikely to cause any trouble.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"
