  • Gibson Scout has no tremolo

I have a 1960's Gibson Scout. Tremolo not working. I checked the foot switch for continuity - it's OK. Where should I be looking?

    Get the shematic.
Then you would want to "look at" the tremelo circuit.
    There are three possibilties.
    A bad tube
    A bad resistor
    One or more bad capacitors.
    A faulty connection.
    No wait! That is four.
I think you get the idea.
Unfortunately there is not a crystal ball (or software program) that can tell you exactly what is wrong.
That's why XXX made amp techs.
There are likely possibilities. That is what I listed. (add more here...)
So what can you bring to bear to this problem as far as test equipment & tech skills.
    That is the question.

You may find the parts hard to access. Easiest way I've found is to loosen all the controls, and take the hold-down bolts for the board out. don't lose the spacers that hold the board off the chassis. Then you can pry the board out to gain access to the parts. I just fixed a Pathfinder with no trem. I just changed all the caps.

Is it just me, or are there a lot of tremelo/vibrato problems hitting the board right now? If the board starts getting additional requests to fix oil wheel projectors, I'm gonna say a trend is happening.
