  • Pickup cover emergency!

Guys, I’m in trouble. I really need several kinds of pickup covers, guitarjones used to have them.. but no more.

    I need closed (CLOSED!) jazz bass style cover, neck and bridge position;

    And I badly need those:
Got Guitar Parts? : Guitar Jones USA
Got Guitar Parts? : Guitar Jones USA
Got Guitar Parts? : Guitar Jones USA
Got Guitar Parts? : Guitar Jones USA

I tried with korean/chinese makers, but it’s so hard to have a conversation with them.. language barriers.
Also, they tend to have HUGE minimum order quantities.

The problem is.. mojotone hasn’t got those slim 5-strings soapbars and 6-strings single coils, nor the closed jazz bass covers (bridge position not in stock).

I've been in talks with Tom at Mojo about getting the WSC Bartolini style covers because I need them too. I also need those closed Jazz covers. The covers from Mojo are not from WSC and are taller, which is nice.

Biarnel, how many of the closed J covers do you need? I have some I got from GJ a few years back that I doubt I'll use because the top corners are sharp which I don't care for, I probably only have 4 of each, long and short. I now get closed J and P covers from Japan and they are much taller (22 mm and with rounded top corners) through Hosco. I have quite a few of those and can order more whenever I need them. They are a little smaller than Fender covers so they always fit.

I don't like the GuitarJones/WSC closed Jazz covers either. The edges are sharp and the surface texture is not so good.

Mojo has the covers from the myriad Korean companies. They are also taller which is great. My Jazz pickups don't fit in the WSC covers. He just needs to get the bridge covers in stock. Their old guy never finished the orders before he left.

Unfortunately it seems only WSC makes the Bart style covers. G&B make Bart size covers, but the corners are rounded over, which is kind of nice, but the inside dimensions are slightly smaller and they have these weird walls between the coil area and where the mounting screw tunnels are, which is a pain because it make the coil area even smaller. I also can't get an answer from G&B anymore. I have 200 of the 5 string size with my logo on them. I'm all out of the 4 and 6 string sizes.

I did talk to Alex Choi, who used to run GuitarJones, and is now back with WSC. (alex AT wscmusic DOT co DOT kr) You can try them, but there is a minimum order, though he seemed willing to cut us smaller pickup makers a deal because of the current state of the economy. The minimum order was 500 pieces instead of the usual 1000. Not sure if that's still in effect, but you can ask.

                  So, any news?
Why is so DIFFICULT to have those covers?
Mojo said “sorry, no luck with them”
GJ has disappeared - nobody replies to my mails.
                  G&B - no reply

I need 100, 200 units for each type, not THOUSANDS

I told Mojo exactly where to get them. That's disappointing.

I'm also getting no answer from G&B.

You can get the slim soapbar covers from WSC. Email Alex Choi at the address I posted above. He said you can mix sizes to meet the minimum order.

The soapbars I'm referring to are bass pickups. Mojo has the EMG size, as well as some other odd sizes, like the ones used on Epiphone T-birds. That's good. What they don't have are the Bartolini size covers. GJ had them, and is out of stock. I bought 200 of the 5 string style covers from G&B. I like the WSC covers better for the Bart size though, and I'm also out of the 4 and 6 string versions.

But Alex has been very helpful and I can get them from him, just as soon as I'm ready to by 500 pieces. That aso included my logo, so I don't know if the minimum on blank covers is different.

As far as Mojo, the new guy Tom seems on the ball, and is actually a pickup maker. But even after I gave him every Asian pickup parts makers info, he seem to think some of the parts will be hard to get, even though David, the last guy, had no problem getting them.

I'm also slightly dismayed why he would make their own unplated blades, instead of getting the plated blades (and even black and gold) from the parts maker, which sell for less money at GuitarPartsUSA, who also has the baseplates for the Tele blade pickups.

So hopefully things will improve if we keep pestering him. I like being able to buy a few dozen covers instead of 500.
