  • .187" Magnets in .187" hole?

    Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and I enjoy reading everyones threads. I have a question that may have been asked many times before. I've started rewinding some various pickups with success and I am now getting ready to start making some from scratch and I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have.

When I order alnico rod magnets, should I order a slightly larger diameter to press fit into the forbon? Or do I drill the hole the exact same size as the magnet and use thin velosity super glue to hold them in place?

    I'm thinking I should drill a 3/16" hole .1875" and press in a .190" magnet?

    Thanks for your input.

I find it's best to drill your holes just a little small. When I'm drilling for 5mm magnets I use a 4.8mm bit for the bottom of the bobbins and a 4.5mm bit for the tops.

Holes just a shade smaller are the ideal.
