  • Fun with the Multivox Premier 120

    I've got my second Multivox Premier 120 guitar amp on the bench for restoration.

    It's always a bit like Christmas when you get one of these because you're never entirely sure what you're going to find inside the box when you open it :-)

    This one is from 1953 and doesn't precisely match any of the four or so Premier 120 schematics floating around the web, but it's no problem to work without one as all versions seem roughly based on the same circuit.

    One interesting thing that this one has in common with the last one I worked on is that it has a 4 Ohm speaker--where the OPT's impedance ratio would suggest it was intended for an 8 Ohm load with a pair of 6V6s. Perhaps running the output tubes into a lower-than-typical impedance is part of the Premier 120 sound.
