    ... and had an outside firm wind me some tight, loose & mixed coils.

    Man... the Really Tight ones sound (ironically) Really Tight, and not in a good way...

    I mean, I can roughly visualize how the known parameters of C, R & L would be affected, but man, still surprising to me, the audible change in vibe!

    Never pulled one apart, but I always imagined the two Schaller Golden 50's I have were wound tight and extremely uniformly. (like pitch = bobbin inner dimension divided by wire OD) Just what my ears tell me. It'd be interesting to vary the tension only to the degree that the wire doesn't stretch and change it's own ID. Otherwise you're also hearing the difference between 42 and something like 42.5 or nearest metric on the smaller side.
