Well, we are the powers that be! Except for Tboy who would kick our asses if he wasn't so busy shovelling coal into the server.

Over on the High Voltage Community forum we had a bad attack. A bunch of bots joined up over a period of several months. They didn't post at all, so we didn't even notice. Then one day they all exploded at once in a flurry of spam, overrunning the whole forum. It was such a mess, it had to be restored from a backup. I think these new posts are something like that: they're testing to see if they have the right to post, then they'll lie dormant waiting for Spamageddon.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

Your best bet is to use Firefox browser. Many malicious plants are made to function as internet Explorer.
set the Firefox browser to empty the cookies every time the browser is closed.
Install the Firefox ad on: adblockplus. This has been very effective. (there is also a file that can be added to block all facebook features, nice)
Use a professional antivirus, such as Norton, Panda, or Kaspersky.
NEVER download or install free security from the internet. NEVER use "free" scan tools, downloaded from the internet.
NEVER install free tools, such as: "cleaners" "sweepers" "fix it" tools, that claim to "speed up" your computer.
If you do what I told you, you may never have another problem.
If you use the "free" downloads and "free" antivirus, you will have nothing BUT problems.

If you have already loaded this free junk into your computer, you have my sincere condolences.
The best thing is to back up your personal files, reformat (slow complete format) your drive, load a fresh OS, and replace your backed up files.
There is no way to delete the trash once you have installed it, you are being spied on.

Pssst... SGM, the post right above yours is a bot. We've been solicited to NOT respond to the bots. It was really hard for me not to though. When I saw that this particular thread was ressurected by a bot! I'm sure I had something funny to say at the time, but it's gone now.

That message was top-notch bot talk (except for the little spelling error- but I guess that it intended to make it look more real.) "one of the best post i saw here. Keep it going! Thank you."
I deleted the post and banned the user but I just HAD to leave his comment in there...

SGM: Check out the Pale Moon browser! It is an optimized version of Firefox which seems to me to run much smoother, and with a smaller footprint in RAM and CPU usage. I jumped off the Firefox bandwagon after version 10 which was the buggiest program I have ever seen- it would just blink out and then when you restarted it all of your windows were still open, with the text you were typing still in the textboxes (except for Facebook- damn you, Mark Zuckerberg... and your little dog, too!)
When I toasted the CPU in my HP machine I switched to a Gateway with an AMD quad CPU with WinXP 64 bit- and installed version 3.5.10 of Firefox which their tech support suggested since it was one of the last stable versions before they went hog wild with bells and whistles. Some sites didn't like and I was always told IN BIG LETTERS that I needed to update my browser. So for me Pale Moon is like a godsend. It uses the Firefox engine and all of your bookmarks and cookies are intact- no need to export and import your settings. It is all there.

Meet mature singles on millionaire friends .com

Ho Ha I was pretending to be a bot, pretty convincing, eh?
Pale Moon, sounds like a craft beer. Therefor it must have hoppy flavor, and a smooth finish, and I must try it, chilled.
You know what? I think a bot generator asked me to add friends to my forum friends list. I wasn't really aware of this at the time. Now I have to un-friend a robot.
But before that I must drink a toast to Scotland with single malt, and a toast to Russia, with some Stolichnaya. Ahh, that's better now.I feel wefweshed.

this Panda antivirus has been working pretty well and it cost like $9 for 3 computers a year. Every year I buy it on Amazon, and it seems to keep all this junk out.
Combined with the adblock on Firefox, I have had like 0 problems. So if you are still experiencing attacks, you may want to try that, I think it may work for you.
And yes, it works good for Win 7 64 bit and I know it works on 32 bit systems.

The bots are created by places like facebook, to automatically click things all over the internet. You see, every time these things are clicked, Zuckerberg gets a little richer.
And so, it's the fault of a pay-per-click system.
It turns out that like, half the thumbs up clicks facebook gets are being generated by bots. And about half the facebook account members are fake. This was done to make facebook appear to have more members that it really has. And by doing so, facebook looked like it was worth more money that it really was, artificially inflating the stock price. I think that's what's really going on.
And then if there are bots in this forum, somebody's trying to earn themselves more pay-per-click money from the advertisers? or what's the motivation?

I remember a time when you got Viagra, dildos and what not stuck right up in your face. These Asian bots are so darn polite...
