I would feel better if there was "FBI" somewhere in the URL. Call me paranoid but what if someone hacked into your account here and posted a link to a malicious site? Can you say something that only you would say?

EDIT I guess it is for real- thanks for the heads up!

Whatever is the best way?
I saw it on PBS and went to the link suggested.
You can start at the FBI first.
I wonder why they didn't do a better job on the name and the link?
Here try this. It will send you where I sent you but it looks better.

"htttp://dns-ok,us/" may be legit or not, but it's NOT an FBI site by any means.
No way.

I would rather write all zeros to my hard drive than go to some "FBI" website to let them scan my computer. I know they probably already can do anything they want anyway, but I am not volunteering to ever let them do something like this... Yup if my computer has a problem then I will wipe out the drive and then reinstall a new formatted system. This whole story about them shutting down this pirate system or waiting to shut it down since the bust on Nov. 8th 2011 sounds fishy to me. They reported that 50 or the fortune 500 business computer's were compromised and that is strange to me. This whole thing is just strange.

Hey!!: NONE of the links appearing in the LATimes article is real !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FBI — Check to See if Your Computer is Using Rogue DNS is NOT the FBI

McAfee SiteAdvisor Software is NOT Mcaffee

http://bit.ly/qualys-checker is NOT Qualys.

bit.ly is the infamous extension used to hide (the official excuse is: "to shorten") IP addresses.
So if you run a service called Miss_Laura's_House_of_Pain_Torture_and_Transvestism.com which would rise a few eyebrows you can shorten it to bit.ly/Laura or whatever.

The link does not scan your computer. It is a very basic test to see if you go to the real site (the one with the green background) or whether you are redirected to the site with the red background (which means that you are in deep doo-doo.)
The article mentions that if you have run Google or Facebook either of them would have told you that you do have the problem.

At least in the past Tucows.com used to be cool- it was THE place to download shareware or freeware without having to jump through hoops to avoid crap. Some sites are like walking across a lawn with dog turds everywhere you step.

Yup Tucows was always present on sites that I use all the time>>> like archive.org. That site is pretty cool still. And it is way worse when your walking across a "WET" lawn w/ turd landmines every step you take.

Oh Okay I will go see what color I am... Red or Green...

Edit: YAY!!! I got greens and only stepped in a couple turds on the way...!

That reminds me of an incident back in the late 80's when I was working for a home warranty company. A real estate agent had met me at a property that was for sale and we were walking across a lawn that had just been aerated, with those little cylinders of dirt all over the place. The real estate had a strong French accent and I got the impression that he had come to our country only recently. My mind seems to work in strange ways and as we were walking across that lawn I made the comment "you'd think that people would clean up after their dogs" and his reaction was priceless- he started tip-toeing trying to miss all of the "dog turds."

Steve

P.S. I didn't know that we could now "like" messages here but there it is- on the lower right corner of the reply. One of the few things of value that Facebook has contributed to our on-line life.

OK: now it's July the 9th !!!!
What should I expect?
I mean, besides it being our (Argentine) Independence Day, of course.

Only affects about 68.000 systems.
That isn't much in the grand scheme of things.
