Head to Cab matching

Hey Guys,

When matching a head to a cab should i bet always looking to have a higher powered speaker than the cab as to not damage the speaker?
and also how much is to much, does having a 15 watt head and 2x35watt speakers have any downside?

It depends on how hard you push the amp. Some say that you should have speakers rated for twice your amp's power but to get the most coloration from the speakers I think you want to push them. It seems like the best tones from an amp are when every stage (preamp, power amp and speaker) are breaking a little sweat. That would be the only downside of having a 70 watt cab for a 15 watt amp, but in terms of reliability, you're golden. If you like the sound, you're all set!
