I've just scored a Peavey Encore 65 and am looking to Service , upgrade it or mod it.
Firstly it the pots need a clean, and it has a fizzy kind of distortion when cranked on the pump channel. Discovered that the 6L6 are not matched and one is a 5881 while one appears to be original. The preamp valves all appear to be original. The power filter caps could need a change , but then again may be ok. I understand that the bias is set from the power transformer tap, and cannot be raised to give a greater negative voltage on the power tubes. What would be some options to upgrade or modify this amp, besides putting in some new tubes? Could i install 6v6's in this I believe JJs are rated to 500v
Also can anyone explain how the pump section of the preamp works? where does the clean signal flow from when the pump is switched off?
