  • Need a Traverse Rail??

Take the one out of a printer! I disassembled a printer for the motors; but found out that the traverse rail for the printing head is a very precisely machined and polished stainless steel rod. It is extremely smooth and has two counter-sunk mounting holes. It's absolutely perfect. AND IT'S FREE! The one I found is precisely 3/8" thick and 16" long. I hope this tip helps someone. Maybe pics soon(ish).

What type of printer did you cannibalize? Ink Jet, dot matrix...?

I think it was a HP inkjet.

I've usually smashed my old printers to bits with a sledge hammer in rage or dropped them out of a plane onto corporate headquarters before I can salvage the parts. Such a waste but it feels SO good.
