  • Output transformer arcing

Just found that this transformer was arcing, luckily it seems on the surface.
Hopefully I can clean it up as it works ok at low volume.
Just thought I'd post these pictures for general interest.
As the positive edge gets up to full power "ZAP" and collapses down .

Many will cringe. But as a starving musician I have cleaned a transformer with alcohol then brushed lacquer into a transformer like that. If it is arcing to the core it probably won't work. But in my case it worked for months until I sold the amp.

Yes I'm hoping it will be ok. It seems to have arced from the inside out! One of the spare secondaries (brn)was laying over the top of the actual fine coil wires and the cardboard wrap was pushing down on it.
The "zap" passed through the clear plastic and the lacquer then penetrated the insulation of that brown tapping.
And its only a 50w amp! I'll come back and post the outcome eventually!
