Answered my own question. First I ran the copper preamp bus to the star ground at the PT. No good. Reverb was very noisy, both channels were noisy with no inputs connected, and trem was flaky. Connected to the opposite end of the chassis, and now everything is good. Actually, I'm glad I made that mistake so I could see for myself the difference. I made up a beefy copper clamp jumper cable and clamped to the bus and chassis at various places to see if one arrangement was better than another. The end was no different from the center as measured on my scope, so I made it the end because it was just easier.
