  • Can I add a passive input to powered speaker?

I have two Mackie Thump 12" powered speakers. In some situations it would be more convenient to use them as passive speakers. Can I add a passive input to powered speaker?
    Thanks in advance!

    Sure.
You will have to drill a hole for a 1/4" jack.
Then you need to decide how you want to disconnect the amp from the speaker & connect the jack to the speaker.
A heavy duty switch would work. (another hole)

There are two drivers in the thump with bi-amp configuration. So driving directly would require either two inputs or a crossover. Add in the complication of switched connectors and drilling the back plate and it's all starting to look a bit impractical.

How about you use simple passive attenuator from output of the external amplifier to the Mackie input?
Experience is something you get, just after you really needed it.
