  • Effect of PI filter cap on tone/feel

Has anyone experimented with lowering the PI's power supply filter cap? Wondering if going a little smaller will induce some sag/touch sensitivity to a pretty stiff AB763.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
If you want to experiment with that concept, get a few 5 watt, 1000 to 4700 ohm resistors, same value for each tube, and feed the screens of the 6L6 power tubes with those resistors individually.... instead of the jumper wire from lug 4 to 4 and then over to the end of the choke.

We all use the circuit descriptor as a generic cover-all but the detail of AB763 is often different for each amp type.
eg see http://www.webphix.com/schematic%20h...b763_schem.pdf with 10k B+ droppers and 16uF caps.
How much lower can you go (ok the 5F6A use 8uF)?
A useful way to add some sag is to add resistance on to the choke; 2k2 in series with it should be noticeable when the power amp gets pushed.
