Hi,

Anyone use one of these?

Looks like you apply a piece of reflective tape on a rotating part and point the laser at it to take a measurement.

There's also a few Tach apps for the iphone. They strobe the flash led and you adjust the strobe period to make the marker stay still and then read the rpm.

I've have had one of those Cheapy units for for 2 or 3 years. Works just fine, especially for the price. I've used it to double check the rpm of the winder and traverser on my mechanical winder from time to time and it compares very close to the actual tach(s) I have on that winder. No need to use it on the CNC winder though. From time to time, you'll find the odd other use for one of these. I actually used it to calibrate the X-axis drive power feed control unit on my milling machine.
