  • Problem with a Peavey

Hi I'm new here. I have a problem with a vintage Peavey PA-400 head. All it dose is hum when plugged in to speaker's and no out put at all. What could be wrong??

    Probably a blown output.

Read all this before doing anything...

If the hum is real loud, we look at the speaker cones. When you power up, do the cones move one direction and stay there? If so, you have DC on the speakers. TURN IT OFF imediately. DC on speakers will melt them.

If the speaker tends to sit where it was, you might just need a new filter cap or two.

Connect a volt meter to the speaker jack. NO SPEAKER, just a meter. Got DC volts? Got AC volts?

    The owner manual includes schematics:

Your main power supplies ought to be roughly 50v each and mostly free of ripple, are they?
