  • Should this Peavey PV500 be loud.....

I only have my acoustic guitar with a passive pickup (no preamp) at home to check out this known working Peavey PV500 power amplifier.
I'm using 2 15" speakers in seperate cabinets, controls set to stereo and volume turned to 10 and it is audible but not 'loud'. Do I need to preamp this guitar to hear the real volume this amp can produce?

Yes, you need a preamp. The amp is looking for line level input. Your guitar output is instrument level and not nearly enough to drive the amp to max.

I looked up the Peavey manual & the input sensitivity is 1.0 volt.

You will be lucky if the acoustic pickup outputs a 100mv signal.
        (Note: 1000mv's = 1 volt)
