  • Ray Butts EchoSonic amp in use with interior video.

I hope this is not seen as spam but the Ray Butts EchoSonic amp in this video I did is so rare that I figure vintage amp guys would love to see it in action. There is video of the tape loop in action with the back off the amp. I recorded this at my shop for a new ThroBak Pro-90 humbucker sized P-90 demo. I used an SM-57 on the amp and the stereo mics on the Zoom recorder for a little room sound but that is it. You couldn't ask for anyone better than Deke Dickerson to do the playing, unless it was Scotty Moore!

They don't make them like they used to... We do.

Sorry, I shouldn't have brought it up. #27 made the rounds of most forum's and got a bit notorious for some heated discussions.

Why else would you put an ad in a tech area when there are all the other places to post your wares.

JGundry: I would guess this is probably the echosonic Scotty Moore sold to Deke. Sorry to derail the thread, but it's almost impossible to do any online research about these amps without coming across that 1 particular unit. It happens time and time again any time I see them mentioned.

As long as the thread isn't bombarded by Throbak ads from this point forward, I have no problem with it being posted in this forum... It IS mostly a vintage amp, and an oddball at that. Cool video, especially seeing tape running... kinda makes me miss tape! Well, not really. But I could go for an old oil can or metal disk delay...

Actually this is EchoSonic #62. It is owned by a local collector here in West Michigan who bought it from the original owner who is also local. The original owner bought it from Ray Butts because he wanted the amp Chet Atkins used. It apparently never left the man's house. Deke does not own it, he just happened to be in town and I worked out the details. This amp also has Tremelo which I don't know of any others that have this option.

If anyone wants to pull this video as spam that is fine by me. Yes I make and sell pickups not EchoSonic amps, obviously. It is hard to find any info about these amps so I thought that there might be interest in hearing some decent audio and some gut shots of the tape loop. I'm a regular on the pickup makers forum and thought I would share this rarity of an amp here too. But by all means delete this entire thread if you like.

Way cool info, but way too short on the amp!!
Which leads me to...I can kind of understand why Terry's feathers are slightly ruffled. But I don't get that it "should'nt have been posted" from his post. Just that another area might be more "suitable".

The fact that you're both makers...makes things easily understandable. Though "...pull this video..." and "...delete this entire thread if you like" seem just a bit "overboard". If there's more to the 'story' then disregard, and I'll go back to minding my own business, but, honestly, outside-looking-in, I don't think T meant anything that serious by it.

Rest assured, your post and video are appreciated, though unfortunately, leaves me (in particular) wanting more video on the amp itself now that you've brought it to light! lol Is there a chance you've got 'cutting room floor' video that focuses more on the amp itself that you could follow up with?!?

                    All the best!

PS: Having Deke there on *that amp* was just the perfect way to let it shine...especially with Chet style picking!!

Actually I have video of the members of Los Straightjackets also playing through this amp. I'll do another video with more EchoSonic shots with one of the guys playing a non ThroBak equipped guitar and I'll post it here. I actually posted first on the pickup maker's showcase but they have yet to actually put it live. The mods have been very slow in posting in the past.

I read that entire thread as well, and seems that the OP has indeed restored an Echosonic #27 to near perfection. It's clear to anyone reading it that he is being provoked and criticized for making all of his work and photos publicly available for all to view, which is clearly upsetting some people for some reason.

More ridiculous is G1 .... ol' Greg N from Canada......... Sounds like he's nothing but an old resentful amp 'repairman' who has difficulties letting things go, and finds much amusement reading online drama. Just more of his ramblings and babblings.....
