  • Yamaha P7000 Service Manual in English?

Wondering if anyone has an English service manual for this amp? All I have is one in Japanese. I am not up to snuff on some of these newer SMPS setups...amp doesn't even power up (mains fuse is OK). I used to work on SMPS's years ago but they were very (read; extremely) simple compared to this. Power is getting to the SMPS input but from there...???

    Thanks...

This one is in both Japanese and English as far as I can tell. Perhaps it's the same one that you have already not sure.

It seems to be the same one I have...all the Japanese characters translate as dots...not that I could read it if the characters were printed

        Which reader are you using?

The newest Adobe Reader may help.

Edit: Adobe X: still got the dots.

So lets work on the SMPS.

First item to check is the 15 Volt regulator.
        (IC403)
        Is that working?

        Watch the grounding on these!
Everything on the left is hot to the mains!

          Weird.
I have Japanese fonts installed because my Son speaks it like a native, and left hand panel "index" is rendered perfectly , but the main window shows "dots" which enlarged are strings which look like coded characters
          􀀒􀀁􀎳􀊔􀏄􀊢􀥴􀽁􀣌􀘒􀀛 􀀁􀻿􀀕􀷼􀊣
          􀀗􀀎􀀒 􀏥􀎿􀎫􀎞􀏯􀎬􀏧􀎛􀖎􀍠􀎇􀍢􀉻􀊢􀀒􀟲􀢀
but do not display them the proper way.
Some quirk of the Acrobat version used by Yamaha.

Anyway the manual is fully bilingual, so no big deal.

Probably the Yamaha manual is accompanied by some special font , which the Elektrotanya uploader dismissed and left behind.

EDIT: funny, I see them but Forum shows them as ? marks inside of black squares.

            Hey there

The smps is fairly easy to work on, i did two last week . Check the FET's , small transformer and load resistors!

If FET's are blown change the pwm ic and driver ic with all caps and voltage reg.Remember not switch on psu without a channel loading it .But first check channel board including crowbar circuit FET's before connecting it .

Checking before starting up is not a bad thing!

The customer doesn't want to spend any money on it...too bad. I offered to buy it as is but he declined so it's going back to him with a bench charge. I bet I see it again eventually.

If you had the key to that cipher, you would know that it's the phone number for a Japanese escort service.

So I guess Enzo has the key and was able to decipher the price in there somewhere.

                            from Yammie WEB site:
"Look at the specifications and you'll notice that the P2500S and P3500S are surprisingly light in weight, making transport and setup less of a chore. What is really impressive, however, is the difference in weight per watt when you look at the P5000S and P7000S. The use of an advanced switching power supply makes these two models very lightweight while maintaining superior audio quality (and bench fees)."

Their non SMPS models are bullet proof!

Remember, it is Japanese, so... plice.

Nah, I know that was weak, it is really early in my day. I need a nap.

Yamaha made really nice service manuals. Very complete, parts blowups, assembly and disassembly instructions, adjustments and calibrations, diagnostics, and parts lists, as well as schematics and layouts. On the factory manual for the CLP250 Clavinova, the parts list opening page says,

                              PARTS RIST

I swear to god. We have a small three ring binder in the shop of useful information, and that page is the cover page of that binder. We liked it that much.
