I got another call, with a new wrinkle on the tech support call.
Guy calls and I play along, he says my computer is infected by a hacker.
He wants me to press the window key and r key at the same time.
I did, and nothing happens on my Anti-X linux.
He persists, and I tell him he is a scam and I'm hanging up now.
I did hang up and he calls right back from this number 831-321-7348, he said he will report me to the FBI.
I told him to go ahead, and I would do the same, for him not to call me again, and I hung up for the second time.
I searched on the web at this link, and this shows what he was trying to do.

    Beware.

Poor FBI must be up their eyebrows with this nonsense. "Boy that cried wolf" story, bet they'll do nothing as usual.

Scammers here are trying to give away cell phones over the last couple weeks. Always someone with an oriental accent. (I know "oriental" is now not Pee Cee, that is why I use the term.) Last call I told ching chang to put his lawyer on the phone. "He not in office now." Of course not, what criminal has their lawyer ready to hand when they're committing their crime? Should go without saying, I'm on the Do Not Call list, what do they care for that. Penalty for pestering is supposed to be $3000, paid by criminal caller to those thay pester. Has anyone ever collected much as a penny? Another worthless gummint system.

Expecting another call, any minute now.
This isn't the future I signed up for.

I thought about telling him, he needed to make a house call?
That way I could introduce him to my Friend Samuel! But I didn't.

Just as well. I dunno what they do in Arkansas, but in NY all you need do is show a weapon, even a knife, & you're sacked with "menacing," good for a year in the pokey & no more firearms permit. Hard to turn the tables on criminals. That only happens on TV and in the movies.

Now if the cops would do a sting, wouldn't that be grand. They've done it before, notifying bail-skippers & those with warrants that they've won a contest. When the lawbreakers show up, they get a free pair of bracelets, the kind that snap together & don't come off easily. Then an all expenses paid holiday in Hotel Graybar including 3 square meals a day, free medical care, fashionable clothing & shoes, and lots of games to play.

Those found to be border jumpers should also get an free one way flight back to the home country, with a bottle of water & a sandwich. And they can take their families with them - anchor babies, aunts & uncles, gramma & grampa & all the rest. It'll be a party!
This isn't the future I signed up for.

            Who mentioned anything about weapons?
Besides here you can openly carry a side arm.
You wouldn't have to show it, if it is already displayed on your hip!
Since all the guns here, Crime is way down.
Also don't forget in the south, we have Stand Your Ground laws.
            Another crime deterrent!
            Criminals have less rights here!

Back to the cyber crime, be careful!

I figured "my friend Samuel" = Sam Colt. I like your Arkansas laws just fine! (smile when ya say that... ) Whatever it takes to get phone/computer scam pests to stand down. A nice ICE raid at scammer's headquarters, OK boys let's see ya try it from pre-deport detention center.

A recent variation on the "Windows Technical Support" scam is they claim to "owe a refund to the account associated with this phone number of two hundred and ninety-nine, for the Trojan virus removal service provided one year ago".

The first time it happened, I kept challenging the caller
"If you have an account associated with this phone number, then what is my name? Address? Windows version and product key?"
"299 rupees? What's that, about 4 bucks? Just keep it, I don't want it."
"My computer has never had a Trojan virus. I use a Durex on my hard drive whenever I watch porn."
                And so on.

That didn't deter the caller one bit. He just kept plugging on, insisting he was legit because he knew my phone number, and that he was just trying to help me get my refund before the rapidly approaching deadline.

During the conversation, I was Googling on my Chromebook, and finally said
"OK, you know that my phone number is xxx-xxx-xxxx.
I happen to know that your global position is 22.5667° N, 88.3667° E.
You seem like a nice guy, and that's why I'm telling this.
A drone is on its way to deliver an explosive payload in... 21 minutes.
Get your ass out of that building. Now. God bless."
                Click.

                And you know, it worked.
I didn't get another call from "Windows Technical Support" for at least half an hour.
                DON'T FEED THE TROLLS!

Does anyone know if there's been some kind of crack down on the Indian "Windows Technical Support" scammers?
I used to get calls several times a day. Now I haven't gotten one in months. Not that I miss them.

During the last call, I shouted (among other things) "PUT MY PHONE NUMBER ON YOUR DO NOT CALL LIST! DO IT! NOW!"
Sean or Ryan or whoever he claimed to be calmly replied "No, Sir. I will not put your number on the do not call list. My life, my rules."
Then he hung up while I sputtered "You are breaking the law! I can sue you for damages!"

I fully expected to get another call within minutes, but it never came.
I can't imagine the scammers give a rat's patoot about U.S. federal law, or even have a "do not call" list.
So- did I do something right, or was it just coincidence?

3 weeks since my last post on the subject.

Half of 'em sold out to Chinese phone scammers, or Hispanic.

Lately I get calls all the time "We're a government program handing out free cell phones!" heh heh heh, with a free "listen in anytime" channel? Suuuuuurrrrre thing!

And the geeks who wanna sign me up for their solar panel program. I tell 'em my landlord would be very happy for them to pave the slate roof with solar panels.

I give 'em all an earful of shit. It doesn't make any difference. More trouble every day. The "do not call" list appears to be used as a sucker list. There IS no enforcement.

Worst of all is guys posing as cops begging for loot for their "Police Captains Association", and "Fraternal Order of Police" and "Police Benevolent Association." And those are the real ones, crooked outfits all. There are others they make up as they go along.

I gotta go, got a feeling the phone's about to ring. Another moron who wants free money.
This isn't the future I signed up for.

Sure, those are all scams- but they're not "technically" the same as the guys trying to convince you to turn over control of your computer.

Only Gallup calls me on my cell, even though they recently lost a lawsuit for $12M about this practice.

I got the tech support scam phone call this morning.
                                Same Oriental broken English.
I told him he was a SCAM, I wasn't going to talk to him, and not to call back.
He hung up, and I hung up.
                                A happy ending!
