  • Silvertone 1484 Reverb Noise Issue

The reverb circuit works but sounds terrible.

Every note has a nasty ringing noise that sound like wine stemware glasses jangling together.

All tubes have been swapped out. Any thoughts/help?

    Thank you! Mark

That's the standard Sears Silvertone piezo-electric what passes for reverb. Lovely ain't it? By now most of them have quit working entirely, maybe for the better. Changing tubes won't help. You might be able to swap it for a modern magnetic-transducer reverb.
This isn't the future I signed up for.

Yes, it has all the tone of a screen door spring.

It is not trivial to engineer a conventional reverb pan into that, assuming you have room for one.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

Okay. It is what it is then. Thank you everyone!

I believe you could possibly convert that over to a cap coupled reverb fairly easily, the 6CG7 would make a great driver and you could probably cram a short (9") high impedance 3 spring pan into the head somewhere in place of the awful stock unit. It's been a while since I messed with one of these but I build cap coupled reverbs fairly often and I know I have read somewhere of people doing the same with these Silvertones.
